Parse JSON accepts mapped/pasted content and an optional approved file path. Mapped content wins when both are configured.
Mapped HTTP body
The node returns one value output whose runtime type matches the parsed JSON: object, array, string, number, boolean, or null. Run a node test and inspect the real output before selecting a nested field.

Set Data versus Parse JSON

Use Set Data to construct an object already represented as JSON configuration. Use Parse JSON when the input is text from a file, page, request, or earlier node and must be validated as JSON first. Invalid JSON fails at the parser. Do not silently fall back to the raw string; branch from a successful parser or handle the failed run through the retry and recovery tools.
