# Desktop troubleshooting

> Diagnose startup, local runner, workflow import, save, and update problems.

## Runner is not ready

Check the sidebar runner status and whether it is paused. Restart the desktop app. Local schedules do not run while the app is closed.

## Browser engine error

Open **Settings → Browser** and restart the engine. In a development checkout, run `npm.cmd run browser:prepare` before `npm.cmd run desktop:dev`.

## Workflow will not run

Open validation results, select each error, and fix the named node/edge/field. Confirm one trigger exists, required configuration is present, typed bindings refer to available earlier nodes, and the current revision permissions are approved.

## Import rejected

The file must be valid JSON, `format: "sandbox-workflow"`, at most 2 MB, use schema 1–4, contain a complete workflow, and contain no raw token/password/cookie/webhook material. Import creates a disabled new workflow.

## Update unavailable

Check **Settings → Beta & updates**. Stable ignores prereleases. Confirm the release manifest is reachable and that the selected build exists for Windows x64. Verify checksum before installing an unsigned beta.

## Development reset

Do not delete application data as a first step. Preserve the local database and artifacts, reproduce with the preview API or a new workflow, and inspect the exact error before considering a reset.
