# JSON

> Parse JSON text or an approved file and map nested output safely.

Parse JSON accepts mapped/pasted `content` and an optional approved file `path`. Mapped content wins when both are configured.

```json title="Mapped HTTP body" theme={"system"}
{
  "path": "",
  "content": "{{nodes.http_request.output.body}}"
}
```

The node returns one `value` output whose runtime type matches the parsed JSON: object, array, string, number, boolean, or null. Run a node test and inspect the real output before selecting a nested field.

## Set Data versus Parse JSON

Use [Set Data](https://docs.sndbox.app/nodes/set-data.md) to construct an object already represented as JSON configuration. Use Parse JSON when the input is text from a file, page, request, or earlier node and must be validated as JSON first.

Invalid JSON fails at the parser. Do not silently fall back to the raw string; branch from a successful parser or handle the failed run through the retry and recovery tools.
